Doodling and sketching and other stuff.
Stuff I do.
My name is Giles Lord and I live in Cape Town, South Africa. Ever since my fascination with lego as a child, I have been drawn (excuse the pun) to creating beautiful things. Because beautiful things make the world a better place and I want to live in a better place, don’t you? To me, pictures tell more of a story than words can ever describe because it allows you, the viewer to imagine your own story. And if I can create artwork that allows you to do this, then I have done my job.
I have been creating visual stories all my life whether it’s been through sketching, doodling, painting or collages and thought it was time to compile a collection of my work to share with you. I hope you enjoy what I have made and let me know if I can create a story for you.
Stuff I like.
When I am on automatic pilot and only half attending to what I am doing, I find yourself thinking of something that has been at the back of my mind. Underlying preoccupations surface and before I know it, take shape as doodles.
Doodles are like fragments of a map that shows how my crazy mind works.
Some of my best ideas start with a sketch. Sketching is my most powerful process to use because it always helps me discover the my best ideas and solutions to a design problem. It is a difficult task to ‘freestyle’ a complex design out of midair without hashing out the details. This is why sketching will remain my most important step in the design and development process.
Inspiration can be defined as a new and better way of answering a question, or solving a problem. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with insightful solutions to a difficult quandary.
